EF Research is a group of 6 teams at the Ethereum Foundation that all strive to improve ethereum. Our teams are:
Applied Research Group (ARG): Emphasis on getting research ideas into production, data engineering and specifications, with a new bend towards applied cryptography
Consensus R&D: A team focusing among (many) other things on consensus, specifications of PoS Ethereum, and protocol-driven research
Cryptography: A team involved in delivering cutting-edge, secure cryptography for use by the protocol. See also https://crypto.ethereum.org
Protocol Security: Wide range of expertise to keep Ethereum safe, from code reviews to advanced tooling, simulations and bug bounty programs. See also https://security.ethereum.org

Protocol Security is hiring! Apply to Execution Layer position and zero-knowledge/cryptography position.
The Protocol Security Research team is looking for a person with a security mindset and skillset in the Execution Layer, and for another person with a security mindset and a skillset in zero-knowledge/cryptography. The roles are very practical, meaning working with code reviews, creating fuzzers and similar hands-on tasks.

Robust Incentives Group (RIG): A team concerned with the mechanisms and economics powering the Ethereum protocol. See also https://rig.ethereum.org

RIG is hiring! Apply here.
We are looking for an exceptional Protocol Architecture research scientist for the Robust Incentives Group. In this role, you will have high agency in defining and pursuing research that directly improves Ethereum. You will work closely with researchers, Ethereum core devs, industry experts, and academics on topics such as fee mechanisms, PoS economics, market structure, scaling execution and data of Ethereum, and more.
The work is inherently interdisciplinary, demanding a deep sense of curiosity and the ability to think across fields such as economics, distributed systems, and cryptography. You should be able to synthesize theoretical insights with real-world constraints, designing mechanisms that are both rigorous and practical.
